pneumonia
(noo-mōn´yә)
inflammation of the lung with consolidation and exudation. It may be classified by the causative organism, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or protozoa. It may be primary or secondary
(a complication of another disease), may involve a lobe (lobar pneumonia) or the bronchi (bronchopneumonia), and may be in one lung or both lungs. The most common type of bacterial pneumonia is pneumococcal pneumonia.
